First published in 1929, Fr Dolan’s book, The Intimate Life of Saint Therese Portrayed by Those Who Knew Her, gives us a fuller picture of one of the most popular saints in recent times.  In his 8 studies of St. Therese, Fr Dolan had done an extensive amount of traveling and research to be as accurate as possible.  In 1924 he traveled to Europe to visit her home, he interviewed her 4 sisters who were in convents at that time and he examined her mother’s life to give us a portrait of a saintly parent. Moreover, he even visited Pope Pius XI to discuss the means by which the “Little Way” of the Little Flower could be better known here and abroad.  Also, the last chapter is dedicated to the scapular which has always been associated with the Carmelite Order to which St. Therese belong.  Fr Dolan was the principal North American promoter of the devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux in the beginning. He made the Little Flower known to many in the US and Canada by establishing various shrines and lecturing about St Therese. Indeed he promoted honor to her as well as her spiritual doctrine of the "little way" to sanctity or perfection. His 8 studies as collected and presented here in one volume give us an excellent portrait of what sanctity is and how to achieve it.
