This is the classic English The Life of The Venerable Francis Libermann (1802-1852), the converted Alsatian Jew who became the second founder of the great African missionary congregation and one or the most extraordinary spiritual directors or the nineteenth century. Written only thirty-nine years after his holy death, it still breathes the full fire of the old French school of missionary spirituality which continues to this day to characterize France's role as the Eldest Daughter of the Church.
Father G. Lee, himself a Holy Ghost Father formed in the severe pre-1917 rule, had direct access to Ven. Francis Libermann's thousands or surviving letters and to the elderly missionaries who had knelt at his deathbed. The result is a biography that reads like a manual or heroic sanctity combined with a burning apostolate within the church in Africa.
